What should I expect from my physiotherapy sessions?

Prior to arrival for your physiotherapy appointment, you will be requested to fill a registration Your physiotherapist (registered health care professional) will inquire about your medical history and all the information they can gather regarding your current issue. They will then conduct an assessment that aims to identify the root cause of your issue.

Your physiotherapist will also observe as you undertake some basic movements such as sitting, standing, or lying down. They may also try to move your limbs or joints as they observe the flexibility of those areas. Be sure to give your physiotherapist accurate feedback on how you are feeling.

After that, your physiotherapist will explain the results to you then work with you to formulate a suitable treatment plan for you considering your personal goals. Your first treatment could happen on the first day, depending on the treatment plan.

Your treatment could include any of the following:

  • Joint mobilization
  • Trigger point therapy
  • Postural correction and exercise prescription
  • Dry needling
  • Soft tissue massage
  • Post surgical exercises(physiotherapy after surgery)
After an assessment and diagnosis is concluded on your issue, your physiotherapist will be able to outline how many treatments you will need depending on your symptoms, the extent of your injury, how long you have experienced said symptoms, as well as your lifestyle and fitness levels before your injury/pain-related issue.
When you begin your physiotherapy treatment plan, most practitioners will start you off with around two appointments in a week. Severe cases might require three appointments a week. After one month or so, your physiotherapist might lessen the frequency to promote independent management of your condition as they also introduce at-home exercises.
This is a very individual experience and depends on a variety of factors. If you are experiencing pain from minor injuries, you might be required to have around three physiotherapy appointments. Soft tissue injuries, on the other hand, require six to eight weeks of physiotherapy appointments. Severe or chronic cases will require two or more months regarding how your progress goes with time to provide relief from injury pain.
A physiotherapy appointment usually lasts around 20 -25. The first session tends to be longer because of the assessment that your physiotherapist will do.
